Ceramic Tile Installation

Ceramic tile is a great option for your flooring needs. Not only is ceramic tile an inexpensive and low maintenance option for floors, ceramic tile installation is easy to accomplish. You will need certain tools, such as a tape measure, a tile cutter, a utility knife, a level, a hammer, and a trowel. You will also need tile, backer board, grout and grout sealer and spacers for the ceramic tile installation.

You will want to prepare the floors by clearing them and removing items like toilets and baseboards. After preparing the area, you will want to lay the backer board, or the underlayment. If the underlayment is new, you will want to install a layer of plastic between the backer board and the subfloor. Nail the underlayment down to the subflooring.

Next, you will want to establish layout lines. Layout lines are essential to ensure that the tile job looks good when you perform the ceramic tile installation. Spread the adhesive material onto the backer board. You will only want to spread enough adhesive for about 30 minutes worth of work. Lay the tile onto the adhesive following your layout lines and place spacers in between the tile, and repeat until all of the tile flooring has been laid. You will want to cut tiles to the appropriate size for corners.

Once the ceramic tile installation is complete, you will want to put in the grout. The easiest way to install grout is with your finger and a sponge. Apply the grout in between the tiles with your finger. Wipe off the excess grout with a wet sponge, and allow the grout to dry before walking on the floor. Once the grout has dried, the ceramic tile installation is complete.
